Accessibility

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

Display controls

The display controls let you change how the site looks. Your choices are saved in this browser.

  • Theme. Follow your system, or choose the light or the dark theme.
  • Font. Switch the whole site to OpenDyslexic, a font designed for readers with dyslexia.
  • Text size. Make all the text larger.
  • Contrast. Turn on high contrast, which strengthens text, borders and focus outlines.
  • Motion. Follow your system's reduced motion setting, or reduce motion here.
  • Stop animations. Stop every animation; drawings show their finished state at once.
  • Reduce transparency. Replace see-through layers and shadows with solid surfaces.
  • Text spacing. Widen the space between letters, words, lines and paragraphs.
  • Reading ruler. Show a band that follows your pointer, to help keep your place in a line.

Keyboard and screen readers

  • A skip link at the top of every page jumps straight to the content.
  • When you follow a link to another page, focus moves to that page's content.
  • A live region announces the name of each new page.
  • Every chart has a written description and a "Show as table" button that shows its values in a real table.
  • The stop animations control halts all motion, and the site also respects your system's reduced motion setting.

Known limitations

  • Photographs are placeholders; alt text arrives with the photo pipeline.
